Ex-Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers defender Stephen Warnock revealed how the Wolves fans treated in-form Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota poorly on his return to the club on Saturday. Portugal international Jota was a Wolves player until last summer when he sealed a big money move to Liverpool.
Stephen Warnock disclosed the treatment meted out to Jota by the Wolves fans on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport earlier this week as he said that the player was booed with every touch. The former Premier League player said that the Wolves fans jeered Jota everytime he touched the ball. Stephen Warnock also revealed how the Portugal international was cheered when he came off for Belgian attacker DivockOrigi in the second half due to his missed chance.
Jota had scored four goals in his last three games before the Wolves game and he was one of the most in-form players in the Premier League. However, he didn’t take the chances that came his way at the Molineux to the delight of the Wolves fans. The missed chance that led to Jota being cheered by those who booed him happened in the second half as he failed to find the back of the net with the goal at his mercy plus two players. His shot was blocked by Wolves skipper ConorCoady who was one of the two players on the line with goalkeeper Jose Sa nowhere to be found.
Liverpool eventually found a way past the stubborn Wolves rearguard thanks to Origi who broke the hearts of the home fans with his 94th minute strike. The goal from Origi ensured that Liverpool took their Premier League winning run to four games and they are now up to second spot on the log.
