Former Blackburn defender Stephen Warnock believes that Antonio Conte is only to blame for the anticipated exit from Chelsea. The Italian is widely expected to leave the blues at the end of the campaign after a disastrous season that saw the club finish outside the top four for the second time in the last five years. Despite winning the league title 12 months ago, Chelsea were unable to build on the success. The 3-5-2 formation played a huge role in Conte’s immediate success but the lack of good signings led to the club following way off the pace in the 2017-18 campaign.
Apart from the lack of impact on the pitch and within the squad, Warnock also says that Conte has
not been able to handle himself in the best possible manner in front of the media. Throughout last summer, Conte was moaning about the lack of signings and this led to the club hurriedly bringing in the likes of Alvaro Morata – even though Romelu Lukaku was the first choice for the manager. There has been significant shakeup in the backroom staff with Michael Emenalo leaving the club after a decade. Most of the summer signings did not prove to be a success, but Emenalo did an extremely good job at the club.
